Real Steakhouse Crust at Home
**⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 out of 5 – Real Steakhouse Crust at Home**I’ve owned a lot of grills over the years, but nothing has ever delivered a sear like this Big Horn 1500°F infrared grill. It heats up in about four minutes and hits a level of heat my regular gas grill or cast iron just can’t match. The crust it puts on steak looks exactly like a high-end steakhouse broiler — dark, crispy, and perfectly caramelized without overcooking the inside. The stainless steel build feels solid, and the design keeps the heat tight and focused where it needs to be. I reverse-seared a ribeye, then finished it under this burner for about 70 seconds per side — honestly, it looked like something you’d pay $50+ for at a restaurant. Even my family noticed the difference right away.Cleanup is easier than expected. The drip tray slides out, and I just line it with foil to make it almost zero effort. Yes, it does use propane faster than a normal grill, but at 1500°F, that’s expected. This is a **finishing tool**, not a slow grill — you need to keep an eye on it unless you enjoy carbon. The included pizza stone is okay, but I swapped it out for a **cooking steel**, and that made a huge difference. With the steel, I get a fast char on flatbreads and personal pizzas, almost like a mini salamander-style oven — it actually surprised me how well it handled them.**Bottom line:** If you’re serious about steakhouse-quality crust and want that blast-furnace finish without spending $700+ on a Beefer or Otto Wilde, this is one of the best purchases you can make. Worth every penny.

Perfect grill
By far the best grill that I have owned. It is constructed with stainless steel panels. Not like other grills at box retail stores that claim stainless, but the frame is steel and rusts away. It does not use much propane and heats up quickly.I cook 4 burgers on the 4th notch from the top for 4 minutes each side at 1/2 temp. They come out at a medium temp. Leave them in for less time to be more rare.Pretty easy to clean. I take an extra step and cover the bottom “V” tray with foil and the exterior front tray to close the gap. It cooks steaks to perfection.I keep it outside on the porch on a table. Just clean before use.

One of my best buys of the Black Friday sales
Honestly bought this because of the influence of Dr. Paul Saladino cooking his meat this way. This way of cooking doesn’t disappoint and it’s FAST, which is something I like (you got a well cooked steak in less than 5 minutes) — I also sous vide then toss in a hot pan, but this is even faster. The assembly was a breeze. If you use, as you should, the electric (1x AAA not included) fire starter, you won’t need to install that manual fire starter it comes with — that part confused me as to where to attach it to be honest. After looking at all the reviews here, it’s mostly been positive. EVERYONE seems to love this with no regrets, so buy yours IMMEDIATELY before they run out.I took the advice of some reviewers here. I bought my choice cut half inch Costco ribeye. It was $14/lb — these are better than the “select” cut you’ll find in most grocery stores. One reviewer said they rested the steak at room temp for about 30-45 minutes then rubbed it with brown sugar, salt and pepper. I’ve never had brown sugar on a steak, and it was a nice touch.I cooked it as follows: high heat setting (cranked to the max). Preheated for 4 minutes with the rack inside (four slots from the top) — not sure if this is necessary but I turned it on then went to season the steak (yes, I seasoned it before throwing it in the broiler). Set your timer for 3 minutes (medium rare). Put your steak in and flip every minute or minute and a half.3 minutes. This will be medium rare.Between 4-5 minutes gets you well done.Excellent product. Packaged well. Priced perfectly at $150 imo.Put foil on your drip tray, so you won’t have to clean up.

BIG little Salamander Grill That Works Superb!
We were elated to receive this after reading many reviews of happy customers/users of this unit. It came very well-packaged which I’ll get to in a moment, but first, it’s well-built and well thought-out for the most part…and it works WONDERFULLY. Being stainless makes cleanup easy (BarKeeper’s Friend) and more rust resistant; and though it’s portable it’s not chintzy in its construction. It’s rock-solid.I’ve only used it twice, but by reading many user reviews and tips, both sessions turned out a a very good job, that can only be improved with more experience and technique. The taste of the grilled food is top-drawer. Both times our steaks came out PERFECT on the inside, with a nice mild char to them. I did NOT burn either meal; and we have a Thermapen which is essential to grilling, period. I did also purchase a cart (Feasto) on Amazon for it, as well as a cover. But I digress. I did find the bottom of the grill grates to be very rough around the edges of the holes- not necessarily sharp but rough enough to tear up a blue scrubby when cleaning up after the first try. So i went out to the shop and used a file to bust the edges down and smooth the grates out. This, IMO should have been done at the factory, as the top of the grates are kinder/smoother than the underside of them.Once I had them improved after my shop session, I washed and then seasoned them with flaxseed oil, I did 5 light applications top and underside of the grates, to make them more non-stick. You’ll see the amber coloring in one of my pic.Now then, our pizza stone arrived cracked. I reached out to BigHorn via email with a picture and after explaining I wasn’t looking for a discount or partial refund, I just wanted my pizza stone (the original one had a visible crack on the side and a hairline crack traveling from it about 3″ long), they promptly shipped us a new pizza stone that arrived safe and sound. While I do find the aforementioned rough edges of the grate undersides unacceptable; the grill is such a strong contender, and works so well, and made so well, along with magnificent after sales customer support, that it still gets 5 solid stars. Finish the undersides of the grates and it’s easily 5+.

This is equally as good as a Schwank/Otto grills for a fraction of the price!I eat steak every day and this is just amazing for a cooked to perfection juicy steak. Also has a pizza stone which I am yet to use.Try smoking your steaks first and use this for a quick sear… AMAZING!

Mmm Mmm –
Treat yourself to awesome searing. Combined with Sous-vide cooking, I hardly use my BBQ anymore.

I needed it right away so I could not return it. It appears that it was treated roughly in transit or the packaging is inadequate. So far I like how it grills. I will update it after I’ve had more time to use it
