Surprisingly good deal
I was a bit leery about ordering a live plant through amazon… I felt like so much could go wrong! But, Costa Farms worked hard to prepare it for the rough travel.My plant came well wrapped in a saran-wrap type plastic. It was kind of a pain to get off, but they did a good job of thoroughly wrapping it up. It wasn’t so tight as to damage the plant, but definitely firm enough to keep soil from spilling.The plant was larger than I expected; in other words, it was the size advertised. I’m all too familiar with products coming so much smaller than they look in the photos, but this beauty is about chest high on me, and I’m 5’9″.The leaves are in good shape, and there’s only a minimal amount of decay on the edges. In fact, a new shoot and brand new leaf recently grew and unfurled. It’s so verdant… a beautiful vibrant green!The plant definitely needed a good long drink after being unwrapped, but I haven’t needed to repot it yet. The one they send has worked well. It sits in the bathroom and drinks in the morning sunlight, and it’s certainly a happy plant!I have noticed some sort of plastic dust or staining to the leaves. I don’t know for sure what it is, but it’s a white coating on the leaves that had already opened. I managed to get one cleaned off relatively easily, but the others seem to have held on to the odd residue. The new leaf shows none of that, so I’m hoping as time moves along the ones with the residue may fall off and get replaced with healthier ones.Overall, I was duly impressed by the quality. I got the plant on a deal-day sale, and I’m still shocked I got such a great, mature plant for less than a tank of gas.

I ordered three of the same plant. One box was banged up on two sides. All three plants were smaller/shorter than expected. Two plants looked good and had a new leaf ready to open soon. The leaves will need a good cleaning. Whatever they sprayed them with left water marks all over. The third plant looked somewhat poorly with split, discolored leaves and bruises, as if it hadn’t been as well cared for as the other two. The boxes arrived around midday, when the arrival time was indicated as 10 PM. This is my first time ordering live plants online.

I understand the necessity to produce plants at a pace that allows to meet demand, but the weak roots of the two transplanted pieces I received meant I had to learn how to REALLY care for them. One of those two pieces is still fighting for its life, but I’m hopeful it will revive or at least to recover a cutting to transplant later.

Thriving Bird of Paradise – Beautiful Growth Over Time!
When my Bird of Paradise arrived on April 24, I’ll admit I was a little disappointed at first—I was expecting it to be taller. However, I quickly moved past that and focused on helping it adjust to my apartment.I left it in its original packaging for about a week + to acclimate, and I was happy to find that it arrived pest-free and well-watered. A little over a week later, I transferred it into its current pot, removed some of the top covering and soil, and replaced it with fresh soil.I water sparingly, bottom water when needed, and mist occasionally. I also wipe down the leaves regularly. Since then, the plant has thrived—it’s produced four beautiful new leaves, and a fifth is on the way! It seems to have adjusted well to my space. It receives plenty of natural light, and I supplement with a grow light on gloomy days to ensure consistent care.Overall, I’m very satisfied with the purchase.
